Dimitra is a psychologist and a licensed Systemic Psychotherapist who completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology at the University of Crete. She continued her master’s in Mental Health and Clinical Psychology at London South Bank University. Dimitra's main research interests revolve around the fields of Sexualities and Refugee mental health and its policies. She is currently a registered member of the British Psychological Society and the Greek Psychological Association. Throughout her studies, Dimitra chose to be trained in exploring presented lived experiences through a person-centered perspective, evaluating the concept of mental health and distress within its sociocultural and political contexts. This resulted in developing skills in planning targeted psychosocial interventions drawing on narrative, humanistic, feminist, and community approaches. Dimitra has worked in various settings, including public psychiatric hospitals in Greece, mental health centers abroad, and international non-governmental organizations such as MSF, IRC, and HIAS. In these roles, she has provided individual and group psychotherapy to men, women, teenagers, families, and LGBTQIA+ persons who are survivors of war, torture, and sexual abuse. Her work experience has brought her closer to lived experiences of trauma, intense anxiety, fear, bereavement, depression, and other psychosocial problems. Dimitra's therapeutic approach draws upon the idea that mental health-related problems could be better understood within their psycho-social context.
