Meral is a licensed psychological counsellor, certified Art therapist, and has a licence to apply EMDR Therapy. She combines different forms of psychotherapy tailored individually for her clients.... Meral is a licensed psychological counsellor, certified Art therapist, and has a licence to apply EMDR Therapy. She combines different forms of psychotherapy tailored individually for her clients’ specific needs. She worked with diverse group of people from different cultures and backgrounds. She is passionate about her job, and she believes that everyone who takes responsibility and action for their well-being journey has the need to be understood by a professional who guides and accompanies them throughout the process or at least until where the professional support is needed. She started to work as a counsellor directly after her graduation, and she worked in different schools, clinics, and hospitals. She is experienced in working with people with a wide range of diagnoses, from schizophrenia and bipolar to depression and obsession. She has a keen interest in community-based mental health systems. In this regard she worked in ENIK Recovery College founded by people with different diagnoses and was amazed by experiencing how people can find creative ways for their own well-being while suffering from mental health illnesses. She took part in projects that aim to establish an accessible mental health system for everyone in her country. Upon completing these projects, she taught “Alternative Mental Health Systems” class in a university for 4th-grade Psychology students for a semester. She is currently researching the effect of photography-based art therapies on ego functions and researching how the patterns of well-being depend on the relevant cultural features. In her daily life she regularly practices yoga and likes to exercise daily. She sings, dances, plays the guitar, and paints to experience the healing effect of art since her childhood.
