Overview

Cornelia is a confident, accountable, result-oriented, forward-thinking, and dependable, Health Prof.... Cornelia is a confident, accountable, result-oriented, forward-thinking, and dependable, Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and BHF registered counselor. With over 8 years of extensive experience in working with assessment, counseling, research, workshop development, community interventions, trauma interventions, psychoeducation, study methods, time management, data processing, and resource management, she has established a solid foundation in her field. During the past 3 years, Cornelia has worked diligently in her private practice. Cornelia takes a person-centered approach to counseling but believes in challenging views and ideas to solidify personal agency. She excels in communication and relates well to individuals at all levels. Cornelia is adaptable and works effectively both as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently. A bookworm with a passion for research, Cornelia believes in lifelong learning. Throughout her years of studying and practicing in the field of psychology, she has been inspired by the word "Coddiwomple," which means "to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination." This word resonates with her because she sees life as a journey. While individuals may have an idea of the direction they are aiming for, the path often shapes them in unexpected ways, awakening new interests and beliefs. Mindfulness plays a crucial role in Cornelia's practice with clients, along with full disclosure and transparency. Kindness is paramount in all her interactions as she firmly believes that all behavior, no matter how maladaptive, represents an individual's best attempt at navigating their environment. Cornelia is convinced that there is nothing that cannot be remedied and recognizes that each person's journey and destination will be unique. Her aim is to be there for her clients as they navigate their paths toward their most authentic selves, providing assessments, support, and fostering growth and insight every step of the way.

What I'm excited to bring to Fitcy Health members:

My specialization thus far has been in DBT, CBT, NLP, TIR, ST, and other trauma-related interventions. My special interest is in developmental trauma, including the impact of environmental and social influences on developmental and behavioral challenges within the family, on the family system, and personal development. I am convinced that all forms of behavior are every individual's best attempt at navigating within their environment. I believe this is true regardless of how maladaptive the behavior might appear. As such, I am also of the sunny disposition that with appropriate assessments and evidence-based interventions, there are very few forms of behavioral pathology that cannot be adequately treated and addressed.
