Melanie believes that all human beings are fragile creatures and that true joy often emerges from moments of weakness. She draws inspiration from Desmond Tutu's statement that kindness grows when tested. Melanie's personal journey with epilepsy over the past decade has led her to understand the significance of therapy in discovering the existence of joy. Through her own therapeutic experiences, she discovered her calling to become a therapist. Melanie recognizes the need to actively pursue joy, especially when faced with life's challenges and uncertainties. She understands that seeking help and guidance, even when feeling vulnerable or apprehensive about self-reflection, is crucial. Melanie places great importance on establishing a trusting relationship with her clients, enabling them to embrace their authentic selves with confidence. Having experienced the consequences of losing her own voice as a child and shutting down, Melanie now dedicates herself to helping others find and celebrate their voices. She firmly believes that individuals should feel proud of their unique identities, whether in the workplace, home environment, difficult community, or any type of relationship. Melanie's approach focuses on empathy and guidance rather than attempting to fix perceived shortcomings. Melanie's counseling practice centers around promoting self-awareness and self-management, which she considers essential for personal growth. She devotes considerable time to researching and writing about these topics, integrating them into her work with children, adults, couples, and corporate clients. One of her most significant accomplishments is successfully raising five children—a blended family—who have developed into well-balanced and accomplished young adults. In addition to her therapy qualifications, Melanie has pursued certifications in play therapy and art therapy. She finds solace in activities such as hiking, swimming in the ocean, and spending quality time with her family, friends, and dogs. Melanie actively participates in community youth projects, where she guides and supports young adults facing challenging life situations. Her aim is to empower them by emphasizing that they always have choices, regardless of their backgrounds or surroundings.

What you can expect from your first session:

I believe the journey of self-discovery and identity is constant and includes an understanding of self, self-awareness and self-regulation and a clearer understanding of and embracing your strengths and weaknesses. When challenges are overwhelming we need to ask for help and know that it is ok. I am hoping to help clients feel safe, listened to and create a trusting client / therapist relationship which, I feel, is the most effective way for therapy to be successful. By believing in themselves and knowing that their changes will create a healthier relationship with themselves and ultimately creates social awareness and healthier relationships with others in their lives. I hope to give people a voice and a feeling of self-confidence knowing that self-reflection can happen without fear of judgment, criticism or rejection.
